Musculoskeletal Pain

Herniated Disc

A herniated disc develops when one of the cushion/gel -like centers of disc ruptures out through a tear in the tough disc wall between the vertebrae moves out of position and presses on adjacent nerves.

  • It caused by overuse injuries or trauma to the spine; however, disc conditions can also develop as a result of the normal aging process, this result of spinal nerve inflammation and swelling caused by the pressure of the herniated disc.
  • A gel-filled nucleus material escapes through a tear in the disc annulus and compresses the spinal nerve.

Symptoms:
• Tingling or numbness in the legs or feet
• Muscle weakness
• Pain like an electric shock is severe whether you stand, walk, or sit and some of the activities like twisting, bending & lifting
