Non-healing Ulcers
Non-healing ulcers are also called chronic ulcer defined as traumatic lesions increasing pain, wound breakdown instead of healing foul odour, typically in lower extremities that are unresponsive to initial therapy or that persist despite appropriate care.
Causes:
• Vascular disease
• Diabetes
• Pressure areas
• Skin cancer
• Underlying infection of the bone
• Melioidosis
• Non-tuberculosis mycobacteria (NTM) and Leprosy
Symptoms:
• Swelling
• Redness
• Tenderness
• Itchiness
• Pain
• Skin discoloration
• Changes in skin texture
• Yellow or green pus (due to an infection)
